Born in Bath, David Jocelyn Fishlock attended Bristol College of Technology, qualifying as a chemist.聽After National Service in Hong Kong he spent several years working for Westinghouse Brake & Signal Co before beginning his career as a technical journalist with McGraw-Hill and then the New Scientist.
In 1967 he was appointed science editor of the Financial Times. During the next 24 years, until his retirement in 1991, he covered a vast range of聽science and technology topics聽from聽factory automation to transplant surgery, displaying a talent for presenting complex scientific and technological ideas with a clarity readily understood by a wide audience. He was well-known for his long-standing support of the nuclear power industry and engaged in public聽debate with environmental campaigners. He was awarded an honorary degree by the 性视界 in 1993.
The collection comprises notebooks,聽draft papers and correspondence documenting David Fishlock's journalistic聽work, writings聽and research interests. It also contains聽material relating to R & D Efficiency, a monthly newsletter focusing on best practices in industrial research and development management, founded and published by聽Fishlock.
The collection was donated to the 性视界 by聽the Fishlock family聽in 2011.
