Renowned for its excellence in teaching and research, the University consistently ranks among the UK’s top five in the Complete University Guide 2024 and is placed 132nd globally in the QS World University Rankings 2025. Named 'University of the Year' and ranked 8th in the UK by The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2025, Bath is celebrated for its outstanding student experience and teaching quality.

Role

The Digital Portfolio Director will lead the 性视界’s Digital Foundations Portfolio—a £20–30 million, five-year transformational programme that underpins the University’s strategic priorities and impacts every department and function. This is a rare opportunity to define and deliver digital transformation at scale, shaping how technology, people, and processes come together to create a connected, innovative, and future-ready institution.

In this role, you will:

  • Set the vision and operating model for digital transformation, building frameworks and governance from the ground up.
  • Lead a complex portfolio spanning research computing, education technology, student and staff experience platforms, and foundational infrastructure.
  • Drive measurable benefits, ensuring projects deliver tangible improvements to staff and student experiences.
  • Engage senior leadership and stakeholders, managing relationships across diverse groups and key third-party partners such as Infosys.
  • Champion cultural change, embedding new ways of working, building organisational capability, and fostering innovation.

This is not a traditional portfolio management role—it requires a visionary leader who thrives on complexity, combines strategic thinking with hands-on delivery, and is passionate about making a real difference. You will have the autonomy to shape what good looks like, influence the University’s digital future, and position Bath as a sector leader in digital transformation.

性视界 You

You are a strategic leader with hands-on delivery experience, passionate about driving complex change and digital transformation. You have a proven track record of designing and delivering organisation-wide change programmes in large, complex environments, underpinned by expert knowledge of best practice in change management. Your background spans both digital and change projects, where you have managed multiple concurrent initiatives with intricate interdependencies and diverse stakeholders. You combine strategic vision with operational agility—setting direction while actively engaging in delivery, removing blockers and accelerating progress. You thrive in complexity, embrace innovation, and have a builder’s mindset—creating new frameworks rather than relying on pre-defined models. With exceptional leadership and communication skills, you inspire teams, influence senior stakeholders, and maintain relentless focus on delivery and measurable impact.

A postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) position is available on a full time basis for 12 months to contribute to the project: Development and Validation of a Multi-functional, Multi-purpose Quantitative Tool for Dermal Physiologically-Based Pharmacokinetic Modeling.

Background: Topical drug products applied to the skin undergo substantial metamorphosis as they are rubbed into the application site: volatile excipients like water and alcohols evaporate, and drug and excipients absorb into the skin. The resultant residual film on the skin surface has quite different composition, structure and properties compared to the starting formulation that “came out of the tube”. Predicting drug absorption during metamorphosis and from the residual phase is an unsolved challenge. This multi-institution collaborative grant funded by the US-FDA aims to expand the capabilities of an existing physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) model simulating drug skin absorption and disposition to incorporate the metamorphosis of topical products following skin application. The final aim is developing tools that predict the performance of topical medicines and support bio(in)equivalence decisions.

This opportunity falls within an ongoing collaboration with the University of Reading, the Colorado School of Mines, the company Simulations Plus, and the FDA. Bath’s contribution to this research involves primarily the generation of experimental data to guide the development of this enhanced PBPK model by formulating products and the characterization of their metamorphotic events and their kinetics. Specifically, this PDRA will contribute to the project by: (a) formulating series of drug-vehicle combinations chosen for their potential to inform about metamorphotic events and provide relevant data for modelling purposes, (b) characterizing formulations by measuring drug stability and solubility in selected vehicles (initial formulations and after metamorphosis) and performing other tests (e.g., pH, viscosity, microscopy) as needed, (c) investigating drug and excipients (as feasible/relevant) skin permeation and disposition, (d) in collaboration with other researchers, link permeation data to metamorphosis events and formulation properties; and (d) investigating the manner in which experimental data might be exploited by a PBPK model. This challenging, fast-pace work will involve extensive formulation, IVPT and solubility tests and thus, quantitative analysis by HPLC. An exciting opportunity is available for a research assistant to join a collaborative project investigating the molecular mechanisms of temperature sensing in ion channels, with a focus on the TRPM8 channel.

The position is part of a Human Frontier Science Program award: “”

The project aims to understand how thermosensitive ion channels detect and respond to cold temperatures across species adapted to very different thermal environments. In particular, we investigate how evolutionary changes in ion channel proteins may influence their temperature-dependent behaviour, including comparisons between extinct species such as the woolly mammoth and their closest living relatives, such as the Asian elephant.

The research uses molecular dynamics (MD) simulations of ion channels, together with analysis and interpretation of simulation data, to investigate how thermosensitive ion channels respond to temperature changes across different species.

The project is a collaboration with leading experimental researchers in structural biology, electrophysiology, and evolutionary biology.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated Research Assistant, with an interest in creating international impact in collaborative cortisol biosensing and contributing to the success of an UK-Turkey corSENSE partnership funded by The British Council.

CorSENSE aims at tackling a clear expertise gap and global healthcare need in cortisol biosensing technologies whilst addressing a development need at a partner country, Turkey, by empowering world-class research capabilities and gender-balanced expertise development in cortisol biosensing research and connecting local and international research communities to key stakeholders.

When cortisol production is dysregulated (in a chronic, elevated state), individuals are susceptible to metabolic disorders, neuropathology’s, repeated infections and more. Similar to glucose monitoring, cortisol levels fluctuate throughout the 24hr day cycle as a result of the body’s circadian rhythm common to virtually all life forms. CorSENSE will boost transference of skills and expertise and build new interdisciplinary research capabilities required for leadership in advanced biosensing strategies (optical, electrochemical and wearables) tuned to rapid and/or continuous monitoring of cortisol. This will be realised by bringing together world-class expertise at the Centre for Bioengineering and Biomedical Technologies (CBio) 性视界 in microfluidic assay development and biosensors development with experience in electrochemical and wearable sensors existing at parter Koç University.

<![CDATA[Prize Fellow in Drug Discovery (SS13517)]]> /jobs/rss/click.aspx?ref=SS13517 /jobs/rss/click.aspx?ref=SS13517 Prize Fellowship in Drug Discovery

The Departments of Life Sciences and Chemistry invite applications for a Prize Fellowship in Drug Discovery, an exceptional opportunity for an emerging research leader to develop an independent, internationally recognised programme at the interface of chemistry and biology. The position will be run as a joint appointment across the two departments.

This prestigious Fellowship is aligned with the new Centre for Drug Discovery (CDD), a cross-faculty initiative bringing together chemists, biologists, data scientists and engineers to accelerate drug discovery through innovation in synthesis, screening, computation and translation. CDD will focus on emerging modalities and enabling technologies from cyclic small molecules, peptides, antibodies and macrocycles that explore new 3D chemical space, to AI-guided synthesis, flow automation and direct-to-biology screening. By coupling Bath’s strengths in synthetic chemistry, chemical and structural biology, and advanced delivery science, the Centre will provide a distinctive environment for developing next-generation molecular tools and therapeutic leads.

We seek a creative and collaborative scientist tackling fundamental challenges in contemporary drug discovery, ideally with a strong grounding in chemistry and an interest in applying molecular or computational technologies to biological problems.

While we encourage applications from a range of backgrounds, we particularly welcome candidates whose research aligns with one or more of the following areas:

Medicinal chemistry for emerging modalities such as peptides, molecular glues, PROTACs, ADCs or covalent inhibitors

Innovative screening approaches, e.g. DNA-encoded libraries, affinity-selection mass spectrometry, chemoproteomics or AI/ML-driven virtual screening.

Computational drug discovery including molecular design, macrocycle conformations, docking, or predictive models for permeability and pharmacokinetics.

性视界 the Prize Fellowship

The Bath Prize Fellowship offers three years of protected research time and the opportunity for a permanent academic appointment, subject to performance. Fellows will have access to state-of-the-art laboratories for automation, high-throughput synthesis, compound screening and advanced computation, and will join a vibrant cross-faculty community engaging with industry, the regional GW4 innovation network and opportunity to benefit from the South-West Life Science network.

性视界 Drug Discovery 性视界

Drug discovery 性视界 is driven by close integration between Life Sciences and Chemistry, uniting expertise in peptide design, synthetic chemistry, chemoproteomics and computational modelling. Core strengths include chemical and structural biology, pharmacology and antibiotic discovery, with projects spanning early-stage molecular design through to pre-clinical mechanism-of-action studies.

Life Sciences provides cutting-edge laboratories for molecular and cellular biology, microbiology and pharmaceutical sciences, including tissue-culture suites, automated liquid handling and a zebrafish facility for in vivo pharmacology. Chemistry complements this with world-class infrastructure for automated and flow synthesis, compound characterisation (MS, NMR, DReaM Facility) and access to Bath’s High-Performance Computing and AI/ML platforms for virtual screening and molecular design. Both departments have a strong track record in innovation with a number of spin out companies.

Together, these resources offer an exceptional environment for innovative researchers to develop and test new approaches to molecular discovery.

Informal enquiries & application

For informal enquiries, please contact Dr Scott Lovell, Life Sciences (sdl35@bath.ac.uk) or Dr Alex Cresswell, Chemistry (ajc202@bath.ac.uk), co-leads of the Bath Centre for Drug Discovery. Please ensure applications are submitted via the University’s online system. Alongside the online form, please upload a full CV.

<![CDATA[Research Associate (PRIME Project) (ED13505)]]> /jobs/rss/click.aspx?ref=ED13505 /jobs/rss/click.aspx?ref=ED13505 The Department of Psychology is seeking a talented and motivated Research Associate to join the UKRI-funded PRIME (Peer Review Improvement for Minimizing Bias in Evaluation) project

PRIME is an ambitious international initiative designed to test whether Results-Blind Peer Review (RBR)—a review process where decisions are based on the introduction and methods before results are revealed—can reduce publication bias and strengthen the reliability of scientific evidence.

This project will deliver the first large-scale, real-world randomised controlled trial of RBR, working in collaboration with a range of scholarly publishers across sectors.

Bias in peer review contributes to the over-representation of positive findings in the scientific literature, undermining evidence quality and distorting policy and practice.

PRIME addresses this challenge by evaluating whether RBR shifts editorial decision-making toward methodological rigour and away from outcome favourability.

It also investigates the feasibility and acceptability of implementing RBR within journal workflows, and will generate actionable policy recommendations, guidance materials, and communication resources to support improvements in peer review.

性视界 the role

The post holder will play a key role in coordinating aspects of the trial, assessing the methodological characteristics of submitted manuscripts, contributing to analysis and interpretation of trial outcomes, and supporting the development of resources informed by behavioural science and stakeholder consultation.

They will work closely with the Principal Investigator and with partners across the UK and internationally.

As part of the University’s commitment to research staff development, the post holder will be supported to undertake professional development, including a minimum of 10 days per year pro rata.

We welcome applications from candidates who have:

  • A PhD in Psychology, Epidemiology, or another relevant discipline, with strong training in quantitative research methods and inferential statistical analysis.
  • Experience evaluating empirical research, including extracting data from research articles and assessing methodological rigour or study quality (e.g., using structured checklists).
  • A strong commitment to open research practices, such as transparent coding and analysis pipelines, reproducible workflows, pre-registration, or open data/materials, in line with sector-wide best practice.
  • Excellent analytical skills, including the ability to work with quantitative datasets and interpret statistical evidence.
  • (Desirable) Experience conducting meta-analysis or synthesising effect-size data across studies.
  • Strong communication, organisation, and time-management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with researchers, international partners, and publishing stakeholders.
  • An interest in metascience, peer review, research integrity, or improving scientific processes more broadly.

Additional information

This is a fixed-term post of approximately 9–10 months as a 1FTE role.

We are open to supporting part-time working with a longer duration. A 0.6 FTE would be feasible if the individual could start immediately. 0.8 FTE or above is preferred. Please note your request for part-time working in the last supporting statement of your application.

The exact duration will depend on the appointed candidate’s start date and working pattern, and the post must finish no later than 31 August 2027.

A lower grade offer may be made (Grade 6) with comparable reduction in responsibilities and amendment in job title to Research Assistant, if a suitable applicant cannot be found to fill the Grade 7 position. Applicants will need to be within six months of their course completion date and will be promoted to Research Associate once their PhD has been awarded.

Informal enquiries are welcome and should be directed to Dr Katherine Button (K.S.Button@bath.ac.uk).
